DIY Christmas Wreath

At Victorian Gardens, we take great joy in sharing the art of fresh Christmas wreath design. In this blog, you’ll find a step-by-step guide to mastering the essential skills needed to create your own stunning wreath. For an even more immersive experience, we invite you to join one of our hands-on workshop classes—bring your friends along and make it a festive, creative gathering!

Getting started with a metal or wooden hoop or wreath form. Additionally you will need paddle wire, scissors and your choice of greens. We love cedar, fir, juniper, boxwood and Eucalyptus .

Cut your greens down to about the size of your hand. Gather a mix of 4-5 stems and bind them with the wire making 10,15 or 20 small clusters depending on your wreath frame size and thickness you desire. More stems the more fullness.

Now you are ready to build your wreath. Begin with attaching your bind wire and lashing it over your cluster of greens to the frame.

Make sure as you add on the next and so on that your lay it over the exposed end of the attached one on the wreath. This layering will allow you to have a full lush complete wreath. You can add 2-3 clusters at a time (if you made more) to also thicken your wreath.

Keep the wire attached and just keep wrapping until you get to the end then Cut the wire and lash it to the frame to finish it.

Finish off by wiring in pine cones, ornaments and or a bow. We spray ours with wilt stop to seal in the moisture and allow the wreath to stay fresh and alive as long as possible. Water will only encourage evaporation and with that dehydration.

Here is a link to purchase wilt stop . Enjoy through the Holiday season your beautiful hand made wreath.
